This is a sequel to Black's Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale, and also most probably the last.

Ironside

Valiant is the story of Valerie Russell, who runs away to New York City, taking a new identity with her, and eventually living in the subways of the city. But there's something not quite right with the people she befriends there. They see monsters in the tunnels, there are creatures no one else can see, and they make deliveries to equally odd people.

Valiant is a companion to Black's debut, Tithe, though it makes perfect sense even without reading the first book. Valiant still follows the same genre, and is as much of an interesting read as the first.

Kaye returns to her childhood home after an attack on her mother, where she finds out her old imaginary friends weren't so imaginary after all. She's soon caught between a power struggle between two faerie kingdoms.
There's a healthy balance of everything here - it's deep, it's dark, it's romantic, and it's also filled with your average teenage drama. All in all a good read, especially for the teens.
