This one's also on request... the first two books in the Immortal Series by Alyson Noël; the story of Ever, who develops the gift of seeing a person's Aura and sense their spirit, as a result of a car crash. Her family dies in the crash, and she is adopted by her aunt and moves to California, where she shies away from society to hide her abilities. Then she meets the mysterious Damen.
